Now we’re arguing about something other than the real problem. The “new” minimum wage argument has been reformulated away from peer-reviewed research and into a cleverly fabricated Soundbite narrative. Instead of facts, the voter hears an oversimplified “thought experiment” that leads them to conclude they understand the problem. From there, it’s easy to convince that voter that they can extrapolate their findings to what appears to be the same problem. But it isn’t – and the same intellectual hubris that got excited about “understanding” one problem prevents us from seeing that it doesn’t apply to the other problem. This is the essence of conservative marketing and it is very effective.
