“unholy” that they actually took the nursery door off its hinges (erm…your kid was still jerking off in the shower, and yes, he shared that with the youth group once) to parents who did should have been like white on rice with their kids because their kids were drinking and sleeping and getting into all kinds of trouble, but the parents were so clueless because “we’re a good Christian family so my kids would NEVER do that.” Based on that on my experience, here are my thoughts: 1) the pedophilia thing is far fetched than most of these people say, but it’s not impossible I would ask your parents directly… do you plan to use these videos for sexual purposes It’s a valid question and most parents would be so appalled at the thought that you’d know right away if that would be a problem 2) Have you done anything to bring this on yourself? uggle, have sex against her will, then you’re goi ng to let her set that limit. While I agree that putting a video camera in your child’s room is not the healthiest solution, you are your parents and it is your responsibility to ensure your safety. In that case maybe suggest an alternative (no camera but you’re not allowed to lock the door, maybe allow them to do random searches of your room, have them monitor your phone etc.) 3) That’s what I’m guessing most likely scenario…your parents may have major control issues/severe anxiety/possibly clinical paranoia/etc. Or they made some terrible decisions as a teenager and are scared to death that you will do the same. These aren’t healthy things for your parents to do, but parents are people and they suck like everyone else. are you the eldest Sometimes the oldest child gets the worst of this behavior because the parents have trouble “letting go.” Again, none of them are sane, but unless they’re willing to take a hard look at their motivations, all of your arguments won’t change them. This is where it would be helpful to speak to a youth pastor at church, a school counselor, or another trusted adult in a position of authority. They may just dismiss you as their stupid kid, but if another adult comes up to them and says, “Hey, I heard your kids said you were installing a camera in their room. What’s up?”, yours is Parents may be more inclined to listen to an opinion other than their own. They may need help with clinical anxiety. Maybe they just have a few fears to deal with, like when your mom had a baby at 15 and is afraid you’ll do the same. If you were a child in my youth group I would have been more than willing to speak to your parents for you so I am sure there is an adult in your life who can help. 4) If there is no way out, they will not budge and you refuse to accept it… get out of your room. Sleep on the couch. Change in the bathroom. Stay in your room as little as possible.
